Data Storage and Security

Your decision data is stored securely using Supabase, a trusted PostgreSQL database provider with enterprise-grade security. We implement:

• Encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS) for all data transmission
• Row-Level Security (RLS) policies to ensure users can only access their own data
• Regular security audits and updates
• Secure authentication via magic links (no password storage)

Local Storage: Anonymous users' decisions are stored locally in browser storage. This data remains on your device unless you sign in and sync it.

Data Sharing and Disclosure

We do not sell your personal information. We may share data only in these circumstances:

• With your consent: If you explicitly choose to share decisions or export data
• Service providers: Trusted third parties (e.g., Supabase, hosting) who help us operate the platform
• Legal requirements: If required by law, subpoena, or to protect our legal rights
• Business transfers: In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets

Course & Classroom Use (Students)

When you join a course that uses Art & Mind (for example, a class that adopts the book with in-reader annotation), we collect and process a limited set of information to run the course experience:

• Your email and name, to identify your account and your annotations
• Your annotations, comments, replies, and upvotes on the course readings
• Reading and participation activity used to compute an engagement score, including active reading time (how long you are actively working in a reading, measured while the reading is open and in focus)

Our commitments for student data:

• We do not sell student data, and we do not use it for targeted advertising or to build non-educational profiles.
• Your annotations are visible only to your assigned discussion group and your course instructor, not to the public.
• Your instructor can view your annotations and engagement metrics for their course, and may use participation as part of a course grade.
• We keep course data only as long as needed for the course, and we will delete your data on request (yours or your instructor's).
• We do not disclose student information to other parties except the service providers who help operate the platform (below), and never for their own purposes.

AI-assisted scoring: to help instructors gauge participation, the text of your annotations may be sent to our AI provider (Anthropic) to generate a quality rating. That provider processes the text only to return a score and does not use it to train its models.

We rely on trusted service providers to run the course experience: Supabase (database and storage), Stripe (payments), Resend (email), and Anthropic (annotation scoring). Each processes data only to provide their service to us.

Your Rights and Choices

You have the right to:

• Access your data: Request a copy of the personal information we hold about you
• Delete your data: Request deletion of your account and associated decision data
• Correct your data: Update or correct inaccurate information
• Export your data: Download your decisions in a portable format
• Opt out: Unsubscribe from marketing emails (transactional emails may still be sent)

Children's Privacy

International Users
